The name 45 Spider might sound creepy
to the uninitiated, but don't be scared; the band's moniker wasn't
inspired by an eight legged arachnid. Harkening back to the days when
vinyl singles were king, a 45 Spider is that little plastic doo-dad
you would put into the large hole on a 45rpm record so it would work
on a record player without its own built-in adaptor. The band, which
consists of Hadley Conner on vocals, Brent “Dudley” Williams on
guitar, Kevin Moore on bass, and Chanda Williams on drums, has a
sound that harkens back to the past as well, in particular the garage
rock era of the mid sixties. Hadley describes their sound as,
“Primarily fuzz guitar, driving
beats and girl group vocals. A combination of the Troggs, Davie Allen
and the Arrows, and the Shangrilas.” Recently I had a chance to ask
Hadley about the band she fronts, and here's what was said.
