The name 45 Spider might sound creepy to the uninitiated, but don't be scared; the band's moniker wasn't inspired by an eight legged arachnid. Harkening back to the days when vinyl singles were king, a 45 Spider is that little plastic doo-dad you would put into the large hole on a 45rpm record so it would work on a record player without its own built-in adaptor. The band, which consists of Hadley Conner on vocals, Brent “Dudley” Williams on guitar, Kevin Moore on bass, and Chanda Williams on drums, has a sound that harkens back to the past as well, in particular the garage rock era of the mid sixties. Hadley describes their sound as, “Primarily fuzz guitar, driving beats and girl group vocals. A combination of the Troggs, Davie Allen and the Arrows, and the Shangrilas.” Recently I had a chance to ask Hadley about the band she fronts, and here's what was said.

So the FCC does not allow anymore radio frequencies is what I am understanding. So in order to create and have your own radio show you must wait for an auction via FCC. Ok. Now, we are not only forced to listen to crap, we also can't make our own and make it better. So we are stuck in "idle" while every other city succeeds, we will sit back and watch without a clue! I have traveled the U.S and I find that most other cities, if not all, have way better radio than here in Cleveland.

Every city has their version of the singer-songwriter that should be bigger than they are. Here in Cleveland, we call this singer-songwriter Chris Allen. Whether backing up some of Cleveland’s other talented musicians or playing his own library of music with his band The Guilty Hearts, Allen has become a well-known name in the music scene.

In 2010, Chris Allen added to his catalog of albums with his newest release, Acetate.

Whenever I hear anyone say there aren't any good movies playing in town, I can only assume they aren't aware of the Cleveland Cinematheque. This August 8th marks the 25th anniversary of the theater. Located in the Cleveland Institute of Art, The Cleveland Cinematheque shows new foreign and independent films that otherwise wouldn't get a chance to play theatrically in Cleveland, as well as classic films of all kinds, usually in new prints. For the whole quarter century that the Cinematheque has been in existence, it has been under the guidance of its director and programmer John Ewing. I recently had a chance to speak with Mr. Ewing about the Cleveland Cinematheque's past, present and future. Here's what he had to say.
